Juicer Reviews

(I don't know what's required here)

Interested in buying a juicer? Juicers allow a quick, easy, delicious, and nutritious way to add many types of fruits and vegetables to your diet. But how do you decide which juicer is right for you? Three important areas to consider are: how you want to use your juicer, how easy it is to use and clean, and its cost. From there, you can decide which of the three basic types of juicers (citrus, centrifugal, or cold auger) will best meet your needs.

Let’s consider function. Specifically, which vegetables and fruits do you want to juice? Are you interested primarily in freshly squeezed citrus juice? Do you enjoy full-bodied juice—or do you prefer an even, more liquid one? Will you be juicing leafy green vegetables and herbs? How about hard fruits and vegetables? Specific juicers are designed for each of these preferences. Decide in advance which features you want.

Ease of use and clean up is also important. Citrus juicers are simple to use and can be cleaned easily with hot soapy water or a trip through the dishwasher. Centrifugal juicers are easy to use, but clean up can be time-consuming and difficult. Cold juicers fall somewhere between citrus and centrifugal juicers in terms of ease of use and clean up.

How much are you willing to spend on a juicer? A low-tech handheld citrus reamer will run you only a few bucks. A top-of-the-line cold juicer can cost nearly $600! But more expensive doesn’t always mean better. Knowing what type of machine will meet your needs is important.

Three basic varieties of juicers are available today:

•Citrus juicers are designed solely for the purpose of removing the juice from fruits such as lemons and oranges. If you’re planning to occasionally enjoy a fresh-squeezed cup of orange juice, a simple hand-operated reamer or squeezer will probably meet your requirements. If, however, you’d like to juice greater quantities, you may want to consider a more expensive, durable machine. You’ll find a good choice of citrus juicers from $10 to $90.

•Centrifugal juicers first cut the produce into smaller pieces. These bits then pass through strainers, separating the pulp from the juice. This operation is quick and the yield from hard fruits and vegetables is high, though some nutritional value is lost in the process. You can find home units ranging from $10 to $200 and beyond.

•Cold Juicers (also known as single gear and twin gear augers) crush the produce rather than chopping it. These juicers can handle a wide variety of produce and preserve the enzymes from fresh fruits and vegetables. Although this method of extraction is slower, clean up is relatively easy. Many single and double auger juicers sell in the $230-$260 range.

Buying a juicer can be a smart choice for your health. Before buying, though, take time to consider your needs and preferences. Then you’ll be prepared to consider which type of juicer is the best fit for you. This will make yourfinal step--choosing from the many brands available--easier and more enjoyable.

Happy juicing!
